ART

b e i n g - s o u n d

Being as sound and silence, stillness and movement.

We create time-based experiential art, sound/light/video/cymatics installations, interactive experiences, ritual transmissions, and tea sound sessions. Across this variety of media, we consider ourselves artists of listening: our practice is focused on cultivating an ecological sense of listening as relating - relating to oneself, to others, and to the beyond-human world.

Our creative process is akin to the craft of weaving - we twist together strands of sound (live, recorded, processed through effects, acoustic, electronic, etc.) into a frayed fabric-field, spinning bits of stories and unraveling threads of forgotten kinship. We seek to encounter the mysteries in the gaps between words, the spaces between tones, and the pauses between breaths. What we find there, is a maybe new or maybe remembered sense of deep presence as a process, an unfolding, a presencing. It is the presencing of what we usually consider ‘the background’, ‘the environment’, the world. It is not a deep ecology, but an expanded ecology in which the importance fades from the distinctions between human and non-human, between synthesized and organic, between document and fiction.

There is an unfurling of life in its iridescent and irreducible complexity. And perhaps also the gradually dawning awareness of the simple silence holding it all.
